Our ImprovBlox are 6-week courses covering advanced Improv topics introduced in Improv Basics.

In this class, we’ll explore the world of genreprov: crafting stories that live in the world of a specific genre. What genre? That will be the choice of the class, itself.

Students will choose, during the first class meeting, what type of show, book, movie, or the like the class will use to inspire their genreprov. Shakespeare? Star Wars? Friends? Film noir? Supernatural? Agatha Christie? Anything’s possible!

Students will be expected to have knowledge of the specific genre chosen for the class, but expertise in advance isn’t necessary. Be prepared to study up with some reading or watching in order to understand the tropes and types of stories that work within the chosen genre.

Learn narrative structures, tropes of the selected genre, and character archetypes, all while honing your improv skills to create fun new stories in a familiar world. Advanced improv work in all of the fundamentals from our curriculum: storytelling, patterns, relationships, emotions, spacework, environment, characters, and stagecraft.
